Glitterer is about to roll into Jakarta for their tour promoting their latest album, Rationale, which dropped back in February 2024. For this epic show, Ned Russin will be teaming up with his buds from Trueside Jakarta and The Fire Records, who’ve been handling tons of international acts, including some of Ned’s pals from the U.S. Even though Title Fight isn’t in the mix this time, fans are still buzzing.
Glitterer is a post-hardcore band out of Washington, D.C., originally just a solo project by Ned Russin (you might know him from Title Fight). It all kicked off back in 2017 when Ned, living in NYC and studying at Columbia, started making music in his bedroom to deal with some serious existential dread. He used loops, synths, bass, and his own vocals, dropping two EPs from that.
In 2019, he put out his first full album, Looking Through The Shades, with some help from Alex G on production, mixing live instruments with his electronic style. The album got a lot of love from critics. Then in early 2021, his second album, Life Is Not A Lesson, dropped right in the middle of the pandemic. Even with the bad timing, it still got shoutouts from places like The A.V. Club, Spin, and The Washington Post.
After the pandemic, Ned decided to level up Glitterer into a full band. He brought in musicians from the D.C. and Baltimore punk/hardcore scenes, including his former boss Nicole Dao (yeah, from the donut shop he used to work at!) on keys, Jonas Farah on drums, and Connor Morin on guitar. The crew started hitting the road, playing gigs all over, including a tour with Tigers Jaw and headlining shows in summer 2023.
Their new album, Rationale, drops February 23, 2024, and it’s a full band effort. They recorded it in Philly with producer Arthur Rizk. The album pulls from a blend of indie rock, post-punk, and hardcore vibes, with shoutouts to D.C. legends like Fugazi, Lilys, and Unrest, and some UK flavors like Wire and Siouxsie and The Banshees.
Lyrically, Rationale is all about finding meaning in the day-to-day grind, inspired by Martin Riker's novel The Guest Lecture. Tracks like "Plastic" and "The Same Ordinary" dig into how everything is temporary, but you gotta learn to embrace the routine, even when it feels pointless, and find your own purpose in it.
Jakarta fans can expect a killer set packed with tracks from the new album and some all-time favorites that have defined Glitterer’s journey. This concert is gonna be a wild ride for Indonesian rock lovers, especially those who dig emotional and boundary-pushing tunes.
Early bird tickets? Gone. But don’t worry—presale tickets are dropping on September 2 over at yesplis.com. Don’t sleep on this rare chance to catch Glitterer live in Jakarta and maybe even meet Ned Russin himself! Follow Trueside and STF on Instagram for all the latest updates.
